Yazd, the capital of Yazd province, is located at the center of Iran, between Shirkooh and Kharanaq mountains. It has hot summers and springs (semi-arid weather). The weather changes to cold and somehow wet during fall and winter.
Yazd is nicknamed ‘the city of wind catchers’ (Shahr-E-Badgirha). This special kind of architecture is designed for the adaptations to its surrounding desert. The city is famous for its unique Persian architecture, Including ‘Badgir’ (wind catcher), fire temples (Atash-Kadeh), ‘Qanats’(underground channels), etc.
Based on some reliable sources, the history of some parts of the city dates back to Abraham and Solomon the prophet. Still in some parts of the city, many of Zoroastrians and Baha’is are living with Muslims in peace.
This cultural city is also well known for its artistic people. Many handicrafts like hand woven cloth (Persian Termeh), and Silk weaving will catch your eyes. In addition, we should mention the time-

Amir Chakhmaq Complex:
Amir Jalal-Al-Din Chakhmaq built this complex consisting of a Tekye, a bathhouse, caravansary etc. while he was the governor of Yazd in 15th century since his wife (Fatemeh Khatoon) wanted him to make Yazd a wonderful place. Her tomb is located at the northern side of the Amir Chakhmaq mosque.
This impressive site is famous for its symmetrical ‘Iwans’, worth visiting at dark when the building is lit up with orange lights in the arched alcoves.
Around the building, there are many stores which sell different admirable Iranian souvenirs and also delicious foods like local Dizi!
Transportation
A. Flights:
Shahid Sadooghi International Airport is located at the west side of the city center. It offers couples of flights to major cities of Iran (four times weekly to Mashhad and twice a day to Tehran.) and to some countries like Iraq and Syria.
B. Bus Terminal:
At the western side of the old city of Yazd, the commonly used bus terminal is located (you can access there by ‘Dar-Bast’ taxis or shuttle ones from Beheshti or Azadi square.) services to some cities like Tehran, Isfahan, Mashhad, Shiraz and Bandar-Abbas are provided.
C.Train:
The train station, located in the south, offers limited services to Tehran, Mashhad, Bandar-Abbas and Kerman. The easiest way to book a ticket is to refer to travel agencies.
D. Domestic transportations:
Although Yazd has bus with well-run services, Taxis are the most convenient and cheapest ways for transportation throughout the city.
Note: Different kinds of taxis are available:
pre-booked taxi, snap, spot, ‘telephone taxi’ agency, share taxi, and private taxi.
‘Snap’ and ‘spot’ are new facilities in transportation system of Yazd, Iran. It works exactly like Uber. (Tourists must pay the fare in Iranian cash.)
